2021 Ram 1500 TRX Quick Look

We got a quick look at the 2021 Ram 1500 TRX. Of course everyone loves the TRX for it’s 702-horsepower and 650 lb.-ft of torque coming out of the 6.2L supercharged HEMI V-8. We had about a 15 minute drive and we soon found out it was way more than that.

When we encountered a low speed limit, the TRX was as refined as a Limited trim 1500. It was incredibly smooth and calm unlike other performance variants of vehicles that can some times act like a caged animal wanting to get out. Once the traffic and speed limit increased, we let the 2.4L supercharger spin to deliver a max of 11.6 psi. The audible whine from the supercharger gave me the biggest smile that was visible even through my COVID mask!

Getting the power delivered was also a smooth delivery via the 8-speed automatic. Switching the drive mode to “Sport” reduces the shift times by 50 percent which felt faster but still kept its smoothness. These 4 on-road (Auto/Sport/Tow/Snow) and 3 off-road (Mud Sand/Rock/Baja) modes lets you fine tune the power delivery to get the most performance out of the drivetrain. The best thing about the modes is that they’re extremely easy to get to on the Uconnect system and doesn’t require digging for the manual to access the info.

The TRX literally stands out from the other 1500s with the 2-inch ride height increase and it’s 35-inch tires. What you don’t see underneath but are glad it’s there, is the frame that’s been modified to have thicker steel to help take the abuse when you decide to maker the TRX go airborne! If you peak underneath the TRX, you can count 5 skid plates to cover the front the front axle, transfer case, transmission pan and fuel tank.

We hope to get a loaner TRX to do a full in depth review.
