Famous daredevil ‘Mad’ Mike Hughes has died after his self-made rocket crash landed, TMZ have confirmed. Local reports say Mike propelled himself in ‘self-made steam-powered rocket’ which crashed into the ground. Reporter Justin Chapman tweeted: “It is very likely he did not survive.” TMZ later posted an update stated that he had died. Shocking footage shows his rocket fly into the air at Bairstow in California. After it takes off you can see his parachute drift away, without anyone attached. Mike’s former representative told TMZ: “When God made Mike he broke the mold. The man was the real deal and lived to push the edge. “He wouldn’t have gone out any other way! RIP” The daredevil amateur rocket-maker was reportedly filming for ‘Homemade Astronauts’, a new series on the Science Channel that follows self-made teams on their quest to reach the sky, according to Space.com. With the help of his partner Waldo Stakes, he was hoping to reach 5,000 feet (1.5 km) in the air while riding his steam-powered rocket. The flat-Earther previously told the media that he’s using steam to propel his rocket because it is both inexpensive and relatively simple. “There’s no fuel cost, it’s water,” he said. Mike, from California, was a Guinness world record holder with a 103ft jump in a Lincoln Town Car stretch limo. He built his first manned rocket on January 30, 2014, and flew 1,374 feet in just over a minute over Winkelman, Arizona.
