Patients at BC Children’s Hospital were delighted by a visit today with one of the world’s most famous pirates, Captain Jack Sparrow. Hollywood actor Johnny Depp arrived at the hospital dressed dread to toe as his character from “The Pirates of the Caribbean” movie franchise. The charismatic character charmed patients and their families alike, leaving smiles and laughter in his wake during his 5 1/2 hour visit.
Hospitals in Peru are running out of oxygen used to treat patients with the coronavirus.
The president has issued an emergency decree ordering factories to increase production.

As the World is still searching for a cure or at least an effective drug for the coronavirus, the authors of a study published by the Lancet pulled out of it after WHO and other scientists voiced their concerns on its seriousness. The study concluded that hydroxychloroquine could be at best ineffective, but it could also raise the risk of death.

Doctors in Dagestan, Russia are becoming overwhelmed with the number of coronavirus cases and many are continuing to work despite having pneumonia.

What Doctors Are Learning From Autopsy Findings of Coronavirus (COVID-19) Patients
Once the SARS-CoV-2 virus is deeply embedded in the body, it begins to cause more severe disease. This is where direct attack on other organs that have ACE2 receptors can occur, including heart muscle, kidneys, blood vessels, liver, and the brain. Early findings, including those from multiple autopsy and biopsy reports, show that viral particles can be found not only in the nasal passages and throat, but also in tears, stool, kidneys, liver, pancreas, and heart. One case report found evidence of viral particles in the CSF, meaning the fluid around the brain. That patient had meningitis.

Dr. Eileen de Villa, Toronto’s medical officer of health, said during Tuesday’s briefing that public health officials will start asking those who test positive for COVID-19 to provide information on their race, income, household size, Indigenous identity or First Nations status after emerging evidence from other jurisdictions suggesting that COVID-19 may impact some groups more than others.
The city’s top doctor added that her team has conducted analysis which suggests similar trends in Toronto, showing that people living in lower-income neighbourhoods, in neighbourhoods with a high proportion of recent immigrants, and areas with high unemployment rates had higher rates of COVID-19 cases and hospitalizations.
The experimental drug remdesivir has been approved to treat hospitalized patients with severe Covid-19, the US Food and Drug Administration said.
The FDA issued an emergency-use authorization, saying the benefits of the drug outweigh its risks in patients. An emergency-use authorization is a lower regulatory bar than full FDA approval. CNN’s Sara Sidner reports.

The number of deaths among Covid-19 patients in UK hospitals has risen past 22,000.
A further 445 deaths were reported by NHS England, taking the total to 19,740.
A total of 73 new deaths in Wales brought the total there to 886. The toll in Scotland rose to 1,415 after 83 new deaths were announced.
The 601 new deaths brings the total across those three NHS bodies to 22,041.
