The Singapore Government is developing and will “soon” roll out a portable and wearing contact tracing device, Minister-in-charge of the Smart Nation initiative Vivian Balakrishnan said in Parliament on Friday (Jun 5). Efforts to find a coronavirus (COVID-19) vaccine are about to take another major step forward, though declining cases could actually hamper those efforts.

In Victoria, Dr. Bonnie Henry, British Columbia’s provincial health officer, and Health Minister Adrian Dix discuss the most recent modelling data concerning the possible impact of COVID-19 (coronavirus disease) in the province. B.C. released its original COVID-19 projections on March 27, making it the first province to discuss its modelling information publicly. Its updated modelling data was last presented on May 4. Testifying before the House Appropriations Committee, Redfield said he sees “a lot of people” not wearing masks in Washington, D.C., where he works, while many people do wear masks in his hometown of Baltimore. Crowds of people have been seen in recent weeks at protests, over the Memorial Day holiday and, Redfield noted, at the SpaceX launch Saturday. read more

Ontario Premier Doug Ford, Deputy Premier and Health Minister Christine Elliott, Children, Community and Social Services Minister Todd Smith, and Jamil Jivani, Ontario’s advocate for community opportunities, held a COVID-19 briefing on Thursday.

On Thursday, Ford said that while the number of cases in Ontario had remained at approximately the same level, he said it still appeared positive. The province is still looking at when they can begin the next stage of reopening and Ford said they would be opening up short term rentals for cottages and bed and breakfast businesses once it’s approved by the province’s health committee, but he hopes rentals will be allowed to reopen by next week. read more

Prime Minister Justin Trudeau says the government has released new modelling data on the coronavirus pandemic. The data shows that Canada is making progress in combating the spread of the virus, Trudeau said.

Health Canada’s latest short-term modelling shows that COVID-19 could cause 7,700 to 9,400 deaths by June 15. The number of cases could rise to between 97,990 and 107,454.

More than 93,000 Canadians have been diagnosed with COVID-19 as of Thursday. More than 7,500 Canadians have succumbed to the illness. read more

Restaurants and bars have been taking extra precautions as the world continues to ease coronavirus restrictions.

But it’s also given some a chance to experiment by using robots to mix drinks and serve food, without fear of spreading the virus.

New analysis from Australian scientists has found around 15 per cent of people with coronavirus are asymptomatic.

That means they’re carriers without having symptoms, and unless they’re tested, they won’t know they have it.

It’s why experts are urging Australians to remain vigilant with distancing as the country unwinds restrictions.

There’s a growing demand across the United States for COVID-19 antibody tests.

They detect blood proteins typically present in those who’ve been infected with the disease.

But there are real questions about the accuracy of th​ese tests and how useful they really are.
