Transport secretary Grant Schapps holds the daily briefing on the novel coronavirus outbreak

Northern Ireland Secretary Brandon Lewis has said that Alok Sharma might have “severe hay fever”, not coronavirus, after the Business Secretary was taken ill yesterday in the House of Commons.

Mr Sharma was tested for covid-19 and is awaiting his results.

The government is now under pressure to over turn the decision to force MPs to appear in person to vote in the Commons, and instead bring back the virtual Parliament.

New analysis from Australian scientists has found around 15 per cent of people with coronavirus are asymptomatic.

That means they’re carriers without having symptoms, and unless they’re tested, they won’t know they have it.

It’s why experts are urging Australians to remain vigilant with distancing as the country unwinds restrictions.

Manitoba recorded one new case of COVID-19 on Wednesday as the number of active cases in the province has fallen to below 10, according to health officials.

The new reported case brings the total number in Manitoba to 298.

Chief medical health officer Dr. Brent Roussin said Wednesday that four of the province’s active cases are linked to a cluster related to temporary foreign workers in the Southern Health region of the province.

The number of COVID-19-related deaths in the province remains at seven. read more

Coronavirus death tolls in both Brazil and Mexico have both hit new daily records as the pandemic continues to take a toll on Latin America.
The number of cases in the region has been growing steadily since it became the epicentre of the global pandemic last month, with Brazil the worst-affected country.
But some of Brazil’s famous beaches have reopened, and other Latin American governments have already started lifting restrictions to help stem the economic fallout.

“Defense Secretary Ajay Kumar on Wednesday showed signs of Covid-19 infection, sending shockwaves in the Ministry of Defense. The efforts are going on War footing to trace his contacts.
On Wednesday morning, at least 35 officers working in the headquarters of the ministry in the South Block of Raisina Hills were sent back to their houses separately after symptoms were detected in defense secretary Ajay Kumar.
However, no official statement was given as to whether it is a confirmed Coronavirus case. A defense ministry spokesperson declined to comment on the matter.

The Government will “certainly be developing” the concept of air bridges or “travel corridors” in the hope of moving away from a blanket quarantine, Boris Johnson has said.

The Prime Minister was quizzed about the new 14-day measures, which are due to start on June 8 and run until June 28 at the earliest.

At the daily Downing Street press conference he said: “On the air corridors, I don’t want to go into the negotiations we are having but, clearly, we are discussing with our partners around the whole of Europe about what could be done.” read more

Ontario Premier Doug Ford announced on Wednesday that his government is investing a $150 million in funding to improve broadband and cellular connectivity in Ontario.

Ford said this money will go directly to expanding broadband and cellular access to more families and businesses in rural Ontario.

Ford added that his government is partnering with municipalities, Indigenous communities and private sectors to deliver those critical projects.

However, the premier called on the federal government for support and to “deliver on its commitment” to broadband accessibility, because “we can’t do it alone.” read more
