"I am gay and I can't wait to see what this does to my career," Dave Chappelle receives Mark Twain

Comedian Dave Chappelle on Sunday (October 27) received the Mark Twain Prize for American Humor at the Kennedy Center in Washington, D.C.

A lineup of actors and entertainers, including Jon Stewart and Morgan Freeman paid tribute to the comedian whose witty, sharp and oftentimes irreverent social commentary explores race, politics, sex and popular culture.

They all said Chappelle is brilliant, makes them laugh and deserves the recognition.

I am honored that I’ve got a good card in this deck. I have worked very hard my life. The fact that anybody would recognize that outside of me and my family is amazing to me and I’m very grateful, especially given my past experience.”

“This is a fearlessness that you don’t see in a lot of people like that. Fearlessness is what’s it like? Express what you’re thinking, basically. You know, hopefully ninety nine percent of the time basically and, you know, that’s unique, to be able to just spit out what’s on your mind.”
